Harmful gambling often starts as casual fun, then demands more time, money, or secrecy than you first intended.
Behaviour clues
- Spending more time or money than planned; chasing losses.
- Hiding spending or lying to whānau.
- Neglecting work, study, or sleep because of gambling.
Emotional clues
- Irritability when someone raises the topic or when you try to cut down.
- Anxiety or low mood tied to debt or betting outcomes.
- Using gambling to escape stress or physical pain.
